LAVIE, for life, for water, for water of life, spirit … Vu Linh, which is the name of the commune where the project is located, precisely on the Ngoi Tu village, at a place called Khe Dai, “the long cove” formed by a fjord of the lake Thac Ba.
LaVieVuLinh is not a resort, but an ecolodge and a school, and the spirit is in between homestay and lodge. The team is composed by youngsters of several families from the villages around. The difference is that it is possible for the visitors to communicate directly with the villagers and staff of LaVieVuLinh project, because they learn English and French at our school.
LaVieVuLinh is first and foremost a bet on the strength of ethnic cultures of this region, Dao Quan Trang, Cao Lan, Tay, on their ability to persist in the modern world, or even to participate in the great round bringing our little grain, in the Dao way.
On the first hand, identifying our culture, situate ourselves, with the help of the ancients, as Mr. Thuong and Mrs. Nhat, co-founders of the project, respectively Thay (shaman) and specialist in medicinal plants.
On the other hand, but simultaneously, learning, getting the tools to communicate with the world. Learning English, French, video and montage, some accounting… And also welcoming the world, a personal welcome, the image of our identity.
For us it’s the opportunity to learn about foreign cultures, learn also hotel industry, hospitality on an international scale: the apprentices in Lavievulinh cook, prepare your rooms, clean toilets, garden, to eventually serve you homemade jams, guide you around the mountains that surround us, and by pedaling our small boats braided to make you discover Thac Ba Lake, largest lake in North Vietnam.
We have been working in partnership with the Dao Quan Trang village of Vu Linh for more than 13 years. A very strong base, made of friendship and experience, supports the new project we set up together. In a few words, LAVIEVULINH is a sustainable development project acting in 4 fields:
EDUCATION
To be involved directly in the project and its growth, inhabitants of the commune have to get related skills. The project includes a school teaching French and English, notions of cooking, computer and hostelry management, also organizing some special classes in culture and environment.
ENVIRONMENT
The project wants to be an ecological model. A laboratory on the site got the mission to find the most appropriate solutions in processing waste and used water, and also in power needs and recycling.
TOURISM
Tourism economically supports the project. The first stage aims at offering prime quality facilities for visitors to discover our region. Benefits have to cover the school expenses. For the second stage, we plan a bigger investment to reinforce our action. The province already committed herself to support the project and the company LAVIEVULINH was born to manage it.
CULTURE
Inhabitants of Vu Linh commune take part directly to their province’s development, while preserving and strengthening their cultural identity, the Dao Quan Trang ethnic culture.
